Two Years Before the Mast

Readers and volunteers needed!
The Dana Point Historical Society in collaboration with the OC DanaÂ Point Harbor and theÂ Ocean Institute InstituteÂ will celebrate theÂ 175th anniversary ofÂ Richard Henry Dana’s arrivalÂ on the California coast with theÂ First Annual Public Reading of the complete textÂ of Two Years Before the Mast at the Tall ShipsÂ FestivalÂ September 10, 11, and 12, 2010.
Against the backdrop of the Dana Point Headlands and the brig Pilgrim, a non-stop reading of about eight hours each day will be conducted at the OC Sailing and Events Center, Dana Point Harbor, 34451 Ensenada Place.
Each readerÂ will read aloud from Richard Henry Dana’s Two Years Before the Mast. A similar activity has been conducted for 13 years at the New Bedford Whaling Museum in MassachusettsÂ (www.whalingmuseum.org/prog/marathon.html.) where Moby Dick is read aloud.

Readers will read aloud for 8 to 10 minutes.
Volunteers will work a two hour shift Friday afternoon, Saturday, or Sunday. Â Volunteers will be scheduled as Checkers and Timers.
