This charming Provincial Revival is built in the Tudor style and was referred to as an English farmhouse in early Woodruff records. One of ten Woodruff homes financed by the Lincoln Mortgage Company, investor Col. W. A. McCord’s name appeared on the lot. Historic Woodruff composite photos show the house as it appeared in 1928. Featured as the signature home of the 2001 Home Tour, the home was restored and expanded by Barbara and Bill Boyd who purchased the home in 1970. Taking care not to change the footprint of this historic home, the Boyds enlarged the interior living space by converting and expanding the attic into two bedrooms and a bath. A seamless dormer-style second story expansion on the left gable allowed the original roof line on the right gable to remain prominent. The home’s placement on a corner lot enhances the attractive revival features that include a steep, pitched, wood shingle gable roof with intersecting hip, stucco walls, half-timbering and diamond light, leaded glass, wood casement windows. The entry, off an under-roof brick porch, faces La Cresta. To the left of the door is a a large multi-paned fixed window. Behind the house is the original and equally charming pitched roof garage. The current owners were granted the California Mills Act tax abatement program at the January 15, 2008 City Council meeting to help compensate for the ongoing maintenance of a 1928 Historic Woodruff home. The current owners have also made landscaping changes to the garden and installed antique entry gates to the front patio.
