Program Notes:

“ON MY HONOR” — Boy Scouts are 100 Years Old!

Capistrano Beach was first to have a Boy Scout troop in what is today’s Dana Point, according to the expert on the subject — our January speaker Phil Brigandi.

Himself a third generation Orange County Scout -— active from Cub to Eagle Scout -— Phil has researched OC scouting over the century, and is proud to tell us that this county was the birthplace of Specialty Exploring, such as Police and Fire Exploring. And of course the local Scouts’ hosted the 1953 National Jamboree, which resulted in today’s Jamboree Road. Phil is himself a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s honor camper society.

Phil Brigandi

Accompanied by copies of his numerous local history books, this past OC archivist will entice us to think about our young years and what could be learned from participation in scouting. He has also authored books about his hometown Orange, OC place names and a batch of others. The list is impressive! Brigandi will be prepared to hon-or autograph requests for his comprehensive Boy Scout centennial book — “On My Honor,” which sells for $30.

This will be a Potluck Dinner at the Community House, 24642 San Juan Avenue —- 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26. Bring a dish of your choice for the potluck, enough to serve eight, and your plate and utensils.

Doris Walker-Smith,
Program Director
